Picking the right room for the job is as impostant as picking the right musicians! The room has to be suited for the brass since a large % of the sound is the room itself, expecially when recording with ambiance Mictophones.
Brown Sugar is a state-of-the-art facility located near the most easily accesable place in the city, Time Square. Located at 315 w. 39th street. ste.602
Brown Sugar boasts the most comfortable studio atmosphear in NYC along with the top-of-the-line standards in recording studio equipment. Both the recording room and the control room has been design using state of the art computer simulators and produce a very true warm and lush sound that complements brass well. The studio features Pro Tools HD2 accel; HD192 i/o; control 24; Mac G5; Avalon 737; EL distressor; Nuemann U87 mic; Genelec 1030 monitors; Korg Triton; Fantom rack; Yamaha Custom Oak drum kit; Waves Dimond plug-ins;+many other plug-ins and gear.
Brown Sugar produces some of the hottest tracks in NYC. They also have in-house production that is unrivaled by anyone.
Hyperstudios are located in picturesque town of West Hempstead, Long Island on the outskirts of New York City. It is probably has one of the finest rooms available and lends itslef wonderfully to recording trumpets, trombones and saxophones. Designed by one of the leading studio design companies in the world the sound is uncompromizing. Many leading musicians use its services, including (among others) our section, the Brecker brothers (The late Michael and Randy Brecker) and others.
The studio has a wonderful Yamaha grand piano and is suitable for recording classical music as well as pop. The room is large enough to record a full 3X2 single take section (i.e. 3 trumpets and 2 trombones with no doubling).
Top Brass Studios are located in Danny's house located on the outskirts of New York City. The studio has a state of the art recording setup that is fine tuned toward producing great brass sound. The room has been acoustically modeled to leave enough bare surafces to produce a bright sound that cuts through the mix.
In the following image you can see the room with an assortment of equipment (from left to right) : French Horn, trumpet, bass trumpet, trumpet(on chair) and trombone. The room is equipped with an individualized digital mix. Each player (up to 4) can have his own mix and effects.
The equipment includes NEVE 1280 preamps, custom built high definition preamps, custom built speaker systems and electronics, 2 computers, Pro-Tools, Cubase 4 and other state of the art plugins and software.
Recording at Top Brass Studios is very cost effective for small production of 1-2 horns recording at a time. The sound quality is not compromised in any way.
